Now that the fall medicare open enrollment has ended, it is time to move on to the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period for 2022, from January 1st through March 31st. If you are already enrolled in Medicare Advantage, you can:
- Switch to Original Medicare and enroll in a Part D plane. Access to Medigap might require medical underwriting, depending on your circumstances.
- Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan.
Only one plan change is allowed during this window, unlike the fall enrollment period, when a person can change their mind multiple times, with the last plan selection taking effect on January 1.
This is also a time for General Enrollment Period (GEP): If you have Medicare Part A and are enrolling in Part B for the first time you can also enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan.
